We were all feeling a bit isolated and lonely while working hard to do our part in fighting the current world health crisis. In trying to figure out ways to hang with the splitboard community at festivals like Pico Hiko and Bolton Valley Split and Surf-fest, we realized there was just no way to do so and do our part in caring for our small shred towns. So, we’re taking this thing digital.

Apart, together: let’s get out and explore this little Green Mountain State.

Warm up the irons, oil up the bushings, and add some thread-locker to those bolts - it’s time to get out and see Vermont on our splitboards and share our excursions digitally.

During the month of February, Splitboard Vermont, in partnership with the Catamount Trail Association, we are excited to announce:

1 | February Splitboard Instagram Contest

The Instagram media contest will run for the entire month of February. One winner will be decided on March 1st.

Contest Rules:

1. Post splitboard related photos and/or videos on Instagram throughout Vermont Splitboard Month (February 2021)

2. Include the following tags on every post to be considered an entry:
   @splitboardvt

   @catamountrail

3. Winner will be decided by SplitboardVT on March 1st, 2021

2 | February Backcountry exploration challenge

During the month of February, we will feature 4 backcountry or uphill zones here in Vermont. Tours will include splitboard friendly routes at established Vermont Backcountry Zones, resorts with uphill friendly policies, or routes featured in David Goodman's Best Backcountry Skiing In The Northeast . We aren't blowing up stashes. We will only be sharing info about known, maintained, and publicized areas.

Challenge Rules:

Explore these zones at any point during the month of February and submit your completed routes to be entered in that week’s drawing to receive a prize pack of mixed splitboard related gear from our awesome partners. There will be individual Backcountry Exploration Pages for Each Zone with all your resources and form submission link.

We will provide:

• Route Resources
  Zone map, written description, downloadable GPX route for use in apps (like Gaia, Avenza, FATMAP, Strava, etc), zone specific info (parking, assess fees/uphill pass info, backcountry safety, etc). Use these resources to plan your tour and keep yourself safe.

• Mandatory Photo Spot
  Every route will have a required photo stop. We will provide a waypoint and description to help you identify the location. On your tour, capture a photo at this location to be eligible for the weekly giveaway. Make it fun or take a landscape shot, just be sure to capture the landmark to prove you made it out!

• Weekly Challenge Submission Form

  You have Monday to Monday each week to complete a challenge. Use that challenge page form link to submit your info and proof, then keep an eye on Instagram and your email inbox the following Monday to see if you have won! (Example: complete the challenge on Thursday 2/4, submit the form Thursday night, look at your Instagram/inbox on Monday 2/8)

*These routes are guidelines, please be prepared, have a backup plan, and follow all backcountry safety protocol.
**If you do not reside in Vermont, please follow all VT State Health Guidelines regarding cross state travel if you plan to visit.

3 | Raffle to Benefit Vermont Backcountry stewardship

The Catamount Trail Association is a passionate group of backcountry skiers, riders, and outdoor enthusiasts. CTA believes days spent in the mountains with friends are powerful, and that those experiences should be open to everyone. As advocates, volunteers, supporters, and trailblazers, they are working to expand access to Vermont’s backcountry by:

• Stewarding the Catamount Trail and a growing network of world-class backcountry terrain.

• Working to permanently protect access to the mountain lands that support backcountry recreation through conservation easements and the acquisition of public land.

• Pioneering programs to expand equitable access to skiing & splitboarding so that everyone can enjoy our sport, regardless of their income or background.

This raffle goes toward supporting the Catamount Trail Association and their stewardship of our cherished backcountry here in the Green Mountain State.

Raffle Details (entry can be completed below):

• 1 entry for $5

• 3 entry for $10

• 8 entries for $20 **

  • **Max 8 entries. Anything over $20 will not get you additional entries into the giveaway, but the funds do go to support a good cause!

• 1 entry for submitting a photo in the Instagram Splitboard Media Contest (max 1 entry per person)

• 5 entries for each completed Backcountry Exploration Challenge (max 4 entries per person)
